As part of a recent restructure within the Finance team, the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is inviting applications from experienced Senior Financial Accountants and Financial Accounting Support Officers to fill newly established roles.
The Level 5,
Financial Accounting Support Officer
, undertakes audits and month-end financial accounting activities, assisting with the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements and reports for inclusion in the Annual Report and other reporting requirements for the Department and Statutory Authorities
The Level 6,
Senior Financial Accountant
, is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting, reporting and compliance of the Department's general ledger. This includes developing and implementing policies, processes and procedures for accounting, accruals, classification, disclosures, and reporting ensuring adherence to Treasurer's Instructions, Treasurer's Guidelines, Australian Accounting Standards (AAS) and all other relevant laws and regulations.
This role involves preparing the department's annual financial statements and accompanying notes and requires in-depth knowledge of the Australian taxation laws. Additionally, this position requires strong analytical skills and effective leadership in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. It plays a key role in ensuring effective governance, transparency and financial accountability within the Department.
This is an open pool recruitment process for permanent full-time, and fixed term full-time opportunities. There is one Financial Accounting Support Officer (Level 5) full-time temporary position, and one Senior Financial Accountant (level 6) full-time permanent position available, for immediate appointment. Suitable applicants will be placed in a Pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies for a period of 12 months.
Our Perth office is located in the Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail; close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.
To be successful for the Level 5, Financial Accounting Support Officer position, you need to demonstrate the below requirements:
- Possession of a tertiary qualification in accounting or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in financial and asset accounting, including Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act 2006, and Treasurer's Instructions.
- Ability to develop, promote and implement financial accounting services in response to governmental and stakeholder expectations, and broader community values.
- Understanding of business, financial and human resource management.
- Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Personal Leadership as outlined below.
Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Personal Leadership. Personal Leadership context is about the work of individuals not yet in traditional leadership positions who make a direct and immediate difference to the agency.

To be successful for the
Senior Financial Accountant
position, you need to demonstrate the below requirements:
- Possession of a tertiary qualification in accounting or a related discipline and current membership to the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ), CPA Australia or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA)
- In-depth knowledge of current and emerging trends in financial accounting, including Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act 2006, and Treasurer's Instructions.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (sound knowledge of TechnologyOne system is preferable).
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial and tax data to provide strategic insights and excellent communication skills for engaging effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Others as outlined below.
