About This Opportunity  

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an Indigenous Clinical Academic to join us at Southern Queensland Rural Health (SQRH) to work in the area of rural Indigenous health. As the Clinical Academic (Indigenous Health), you will be directly responsible for supporting effective, high quality rural education experiences for Indigenous clinicians and health students undertaking placements across rural and remote southern Queensland.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify education and training needs for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals in the rural health workforce.

  • Develop and deliver programs to support career development and skill enhancement in providing health services.

  • Engage and collaborate with Indigenous health organisations and traditional custodians across the Darling Downs and South West Queensland.

  • Identify partnership opportunities to expand localised cultural safety education and Indigenous health programs.

  • Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students by identifying ways to enhance rural clinical learning experiences during their placements in the region.

  • Work closely with staff from SQRH and the UQ Rural Clinical School, receiving guidance and support to implement these activities effectively.

About You 

Genuine Occupational Requirement: The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). 

The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.  

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. 

We're searching for a Clinical Academic with broad clinical health experience and at least 3 years of recent practice experience. The appointee will bring a growing profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research to the role. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional representative body is essential.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to improving rural and remote area health and outstanding interpersonal and communications skills to effectively communicate with people from a diverse range of educational and cultural backgrounds, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.
