Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

QLD Service Delivery Branch is responsible for engaging with participants and managing participant plans and supports. Planning teams provide direct service delivery for NDIS participants; engaging with participants and managing participant plans and supports to ensure nationally consistent participant experiences aligned to the Participant Service Guarantee.

The APS5 Remote Planner will be required to undertake planning activities and tasks using available information where options are not always evident. The position will be required to perform procedural, clerical, administrative and operational tasks that supports and contributes to NDIA's objectives to "build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme".

As the APS5 Remote Planner you will have a considerable level of contact with internal and external stakeholders and will be required to communicate with and provide advice on a range of service delivery matters to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.

You will be passionate about working in your local rural and remote communities to support people in the communities with their NDIS journey. Attend external locations offsite including participants' homes (which may have multiple stories or be accessible only via uneven ground, stairs). Perform high levels of phone usage and/or face to face work. Drive vehicle over possible long distances in remote locations on unsealed roads and in all traffic and weather conditions, including the capacity to deal with minor vehicle problem (e.g., changing a tyre). Travel via light aircraft may be required to access remote communities. You will require physical capacity and mobility to safely navigate uneven terrain, including unsealed roads, footpaths, steps and stairs, in a variety of weather conditions.

Duties of the Role may include:

  • Working with service providers and participants to gather and verify relevant information to facilitate access, plan development, ensure successful plan implementation and maintain community supports.
  • Developing outcome-based plans reflecting participant choice and control within a reasonable and necessary framework.
  • Undertaking reviews of plans with participants, delivering and approving plans to meet targets.
  • Building participant capacity to maintain effective networks by liaising with individuals, families/ carers and their communities to improve natural and community supports.
  • Providing information to members of the community about the NDIS, mainstream services and community supports to improve participation and inclusion.
