About the role

This role is integral to helping us meet increasing regulatory demands and adapt to upcoming AML/CTF legislative changes.  You will be responsible for monitoring and analysing transactions to identify potential fraudulent or suspicious activity, ensuring we remain compliant with all relevant regulations.  You will be reporting to the Financial Crimes Manager and be at the forefront of our financial crime prevention efforts, ensuring we stay one step ahead of evolving threats while supporting our commitment to ethical banking.

What you'll be doing

  • Monitor and analyse customer transactions to detect and investigate potentially suspicious transactions involving financial crime and/or fraudulent activity including money laundering, terrorist financing and scams.
  • Explore unusual matter reports received from internal stakeholders and make sound decisions on risk level monitoring or submission of SMRs as required.
  • Review and submit TTRs to AUSTRAC
  • Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and support the Ongoing Due Diligence across the member base
  • Perform upfront analysis of new onboarding customers including customer risk ratings
  • Contribute to the enhancement of AML related activities including systems, processes, policies, and procedures ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining a robust AML/CTF program
  • Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory changes and recommend appropriate internal responses
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Compliance, Legal, Operations, and IT when identifying emerging trends and provide recommendations that deliver continuous improvement in our responsiveness to financial and/or fraud/scam activities
  • Provide AML advisory to upskill and support colleagues in the team and other business units to assisting them in identifying and managing AML/CTF risks
  • Maintain AUSTRAC registers for auditing and record keeping purposes

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years' experience in a financial crime, AML/CTF, fraud detection, or regulatory compliance role
  • Strong knowledge of financial crime legislation, including the AML/CTF Act
  • Demonstrated experience with KYC requirements for individual and non-individual accounts
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather, interpret and draw insights from data
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • High attention to detail with integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive information
  • Process driven and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exposure to manual and system generated transaction monitoring reporting
  • Proficiency in using excel
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Relevant AML certifications and or tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as finance, accounting or risk management, is highly desirable
