Downer Rail and Transit Systems (RTS) is seeking to appoint an Engineering Manager to join their high performing team based at the Auburn Maintenance Centre (AMC) in Sydney NSW.

Downer’s RTS business is responsible for the through-life-support of Sydney Train’s Waratah and SGT passenger fleets at AMC. The Waratah and SGT passenger fleets were designed and built by Downer, entering revenue service in 2011 and 2018 respectively. These fleets total 119 train sets with each set being an 8-car duplex EMU.

Downer is seeking to improve the Waratah and SGT fleet’s operational reliability, and this is a great opportunity to be part of the team to drive the achievement of this goal.

Downer RTS is looking for a driven Engineering Manager to manage the engineering and assurance aspects of the NSW Waratah and SGT passenger fleets and will be the nominated contact point to internal and external customers.

This role will also see you manage and lead as required cross-functional design engineering teams to maintain safe, compliant and reliable Waratah and SGT passenger fleets while maximising performance and profitability, ensuring contractual obligations relative to future demands are achieved.

You will also provide engineering leadership in evaluating technical solutions, project activities and overhaul processes including developing and maintaining engineering procedures and test instructions in line with Downers internal assurance framework.

This role will also work closely and collaboratively with the Technical Fleet Manager - AMC where Technical Fleet Specialist support is required to achieve desired outcomes.

**About you**:

- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ and ideally 15 years’ experience in managing the performance of heavy rail passenger fleets
- Experience managing cross-functional technical teams in design, build and / or maintenance in rail.
- Excellent leadership and team building skills with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and cost benefit analysis.
- Sound management of technical risks with ability to effectively prioritise and deliver results.
- Ability to manage, optimise and realise benefits from asset upgrade projects
- Expert knowledge and understanding of rolling stock electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian and international rolling stock standards, and engineering processes, including failure-reporting, investigations, and engineering change.
- Knowledge of asset management, maintenance optimisation and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)
- Knowledge of overhauls and mid-life upgrade of rollingstock.
- Ability to work in accordance with Downer’s values and demonstrate commitment, active involvement and leadership regarding zero harm and the safety of all clients, people and financial accountabilities.
