About the School
St John's Lutheran School is a co-educational day school and a highly regarded educational institution located in Kingaroy, Queensland. Operated by the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District, the school has an enrolment of approximately 680 students from Prep to Year 12.
Situated less than three hours northwest of Brisbane and 2.5 hours west of the Sunshine Coast, Kingaroy is a thriving township boasting a diverse range of industries, from agriculture to mining.

The Opportunity
The Director of Primary provides strategic and operational leadership for Prep–Year 6 at St John's Lutheran School. Working closely with the Principal and leadership team, the role is responsible for driving excellence in teaching and learning, staff development, student wellbeing, and community engagement – all in alignment with the school's Christian ethos and mission.
Key areas of responsibility include: (abridged version see applicant information pack)
- Educational Leadership – shaping curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment to enhance student outcomes.
- Staff Leadership and Development – mentoring, coaching, and supporting teachers to foster professional growth.
- Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care – ensuring holistic support for every student in a safe, caring environment.
- Community Engagement – building strong, respectful partnerships with parents and the wider community.
- Administration and Compliance – overseeing timetables, policies, risk management, and school events.
Commencing in Term 1, 2026, this is a five-year tenured leadership position, reporting directly to the Deputy Principal.
About You
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- Registration (or eligibility) with the Queensland College of Teachers.
- Demonstrated success in educational leadership within a Primary setting.
- Strong understanding of the Lutheran ethos or willingness to embrace and support it.
- Experience in curriculum leadership, staff development, and restorative practices.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to collaborative, servant-based leadership.
Accreditation through Lutheran Education Australia (or willingness to obtain) and completion of the Lutheran Education Leadership Development Program (LDP) are desirable.
