About the Role
As an accredited Regional Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, you'll provide high quality services to families experiencing separation and needing assistance with parenting arrangements and property agreements. You'll provide information to clients about separation, counselling and legal processes and make referrals as required. Your work will be guided by the Family Law Act and our policies to work towards positive outcomes for clients.
This program aims to assist separated families prioritising those most disadvantaged or at risk. The program provides mediation/support and education to separated families.
The position is also available for a person with a degree in family law (or a related field of law), psychology, social work AND who is willing to complete the mediation qualification.
The Regional Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner sits within our Family and Relationships Services team in Burnie and Devonport. Key tasks of the role include:
- Provide family dispute resolution services
- Property Mediation services
- Intake, information, support and referral
- Community education / group work
- Ongoing program promotion and networking
About You
You will hold Tertiary qualifications in law, psychology or social work and be accredited by the Australian Attorney-General's Department (AGD) as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, or eligible for accreditation. Applicants who are unsure of eligibility should contact the AGD Practitioner Accreditation Unit, CatholicCare will require evidence of eligibility.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate:
- An understanding of the process and purpose of child inclusive mediation practice
- Knowledge of family law legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of community services, especially those relating to families experiencing relationship difficulties
- Understanding of child safety issues and family violence
- Ability to work independently as well as be able to contribute to the functioning of the team
- Excellent communication, organisation and written skills
- Ability to meet the program-specific client targets
- Commitment to the ongoing development of the program
