Application Architect (AWS)
with strong hands-on technical foundations and a proven background in software engineering. This role is ideal for someone who has progressed through development, technical architecture, and ultimately into solution/application architecture — ensuring the ability to provide deep, application-level technical analysis and authoritative design leadership.

This is a senior, hands-on architecture role for someone who excels in modern application design, cloud-native engineering, integration patterns, and technical problem-solving across large-scale enterprise environments.

Positional Overview:

As a senior AWS Application Architect, you will lead the design and modernisation of enterprise applications, guiding engineering teams with both high-level architecture and detailed technical direction. You will:

• Architect modern, scalable application solutions using AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, EventBridge, Step Functions, DynamoDB, and RDS.
• Provide deep technical analysis of applications, integration points, performance issues, and code-level patterns.
• Define microservices architectures, API design standards, domain-driven design (DDD) approaches, and integration patterns.
• Lead modernisation programs including decomposition of monoliths, system refactoring, re-engineering, and cloud-first redesigns.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to convert requirements into precise technical and architectural deliverables.
• Establish application governance covering coding standards, security, maintainability, observability, and CI/CD practices.
• Conduct design reviews, code assessments, and technical deep dives with engineering teams.
• Drive continuous optimisation of application performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Technical background:

• A strong development background — ideally in Java, .NET, , Python, or similar enterprise languages.
• Clear career progression from developer → technical lead → technical architect → solution/application architect.
• Expertise designing cloud-native applications using AWS services and distributed-system patterns.
• Deep understanding of microservices, API-first architectures, event-driven systems, and integration frameworks.
• Ability to perform hands-on technical analysis (e.g., reviewing code, debugging issues, evaluating application architecture).
• Experience modernising legacy platforms and decomposing monolithic applications.
• Strong grounding in secure application development, IAM design, and API security best practices.
• Ability to influence engineering teams and uplift technical capability across large delivery programs.
