Position Title: Painter Foreperson (Hands-On Role)

Position Purpose

We're looking for an experienced Painter Foreperson who takes pride in both their craft and their team. This is a hands-on painting role where you'll be on the tools daily while also organising and managing the job to ensure it runs smoothly, safely, and to a high standard.

You'll work alongside your team on-site—leading by example, coordinating materials and equipment, and keeping projects on schedule and within budget. This is not a supervisory or office-based position — it's ideal for a qualified painter who enjoys taking ownership of a job from start to finish.

  • Personal safety leadership – We believe all injuries are preventable and act to protect the wellbeing of our employees, customers, and communities.
  • Care & empathy – We respect and support each other, asking "R U OK?" when needed.
  • Customer service – We do what we say we will, providing reliable and professional service.
  • Diversity, inclusion & equality – We strive to reflect the communities we serve, creating a safe, fair, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Trade Certificate in Painting
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket
  • Working at Heights training
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience as a qualified painter and on-site leader
  • Ability to organise and lead a small team (typically 8+ painters/apprentices)
  • Strong planning and communication skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills for reporting and planning

Key Responsibilities

On-the-Tools Project Management

  • Work alongside your team painting and preparing surfaces
  • Plan, monitor, and manage jobs (typically 1500+ hours)
  • Ensure equipment and materials are secured and sites remain tidy and safe
  • Monitor hours, materials, and productivity to stay within budget

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor painters and apprentices on site
  • Conduct toolbox talks and promote safe work practices
  • Support training and uphold quality standards

Customer Interaction

  • Communicate professionally with clients on-site
  • Resolve issues promptly and keep the client informed
  • Ensure completion sign-off is achieved at project end

Administration & Safety

  • Maintain van stock and complete stocktakes
  • Submit timesheets and job paperwork accurately and on time
  • Promote Programmed's Zero Harm culture and maintain safety compliance

Who This Role Suits

This role suits a qualified tradesperson who enjoys being on the tools while also taking ownership of a job site — planning the work, leading the crew, and ensuring quality results for our clients.
