About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated AWS Cloud Engineer to support the delivery of innovative, secure, and scalable cloud-based solutions within a large government-focused environment. This role will play a critical part in ensuring AWS platforms and services are aligned with organisational goals, technical architectures, and compliance standards. Working closely with enterprise, solution and domain architects, software developers, engineers, project managers, and business stakeholders, you will design, implement, and optimise AWS systems that meet complex business requirements while adhering to security and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with architects and business stakeholders to deliver secure, cost-effective, and scalable AWS solutions.
- Provide technical expertise and mentoring to development teams, ensuring adherence to best practices in design, patterns, and engineering.
- Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and cloud-based solutions.
- Create and maintain high-quality documentation, including designs, roadmaps, and architectural artefacts.
- Incorporate security best practices and compliance requirements into AWS solutions, safeguarding sensitive data.
- Optimise cloud system performance to ensure reliability, availability, and scalability.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies, recommending improvements to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Support agile project delivery, adapting to changing priorities and stakeholder needs.
Skills and experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years' IT experience in an engineering or technical delivery role, ideally within large-scale, complex projects in government or enterprise settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing solution architecture, system design, security, and integration across public (AWS, Azure, Google), private, and hybrid cloud models.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as AWS Landing Zone, AWS Networking, API Gateway, Lambda, RDS, and Aurora.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), networking, governance, and cloud security best practices.
- Proven ability to design and deliver AWS solutions in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps/Platform Engineering practices.
- Strong consulting and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in agile environments and adapting to evolving business requirements.
Desirable
- Experience with integration architecture, including iPaaS, API Gateways, ETL, ESB, and related technologies (REST, JSON).
- Knowledge of multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, or identity management solutions.
- Familiarity with Australian Government architecture standards and frameworks.
- Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect).

- This role requires ability to obtain baseline security clearance.
