About Orange Sky Aotearoa / Mō Orange Sky Aotearoa

Orange Sky is the world's first free mobile laundry and shower service, providing support to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Launched in Aotearoa in 2018, after beginning in Australia, our kaupapa is to connect communities by working alongside service partners and community groups to uphold the dignity and mana of whānau experiencing homelessness and hardship.

In Aotearoa, we are privileged to walk alongside whānau and communities in need, fostering genuine connections through clean clothes, warm showers, and meaningful kōrero. With 41,600 Kiwis (1 in 100) experiencing homelessness, our kaupapa is to break down barriers and bring people together through acts of kindness and connection. We're driven, dedicated, insanely ambitious and a little unconventional. We take our work seriously but have plenty of fun along the way. We work hard and 'get it done' but always make time to celebrate each other's success.

The Role / Te Tūranga

The role of an Orange Sky Director is to provide strategic leadership and direction, to monitor financial performance and oversee the Chief Executive Officer. Directors must fulfil their corporate governance and fiduciary obligations and responsibilities with care and due diligence to the best of their abilities to ensure the long-term sustainability of Orange Sky. Directors act in a volunteer capacity.

Time Commitment / Te Wā e Hiahiatia Ana

  • 1 meeting/hui every 2 months + ad hoc meetings and events in NZ
  • 1-2 hours of prep per meeting
  • Attend an Orange Sky shift each quarter (location dependent)
    3 year term with potential to extend

About You / Mōu

Orange Sky is inviting applications from individuals who are passionate about working collaboratively with the CEO and management team to deliver on Orange Sky's strategic objectives, and demonstrating cultural commitment and leadership alongside Tangata Whenua while upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles. We'd particularly like to hear from you if you are able to contribute:

  • Connections and networks – the willingness to leverage existing and new networks to support Orange Sky to achieve its objectives eg. fundraising, government, Iwi, Kaupapa Māori organisations and Māori community leaders
  • Understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga Māori - with the ability to provide guidance, share knowledge and offer advice when needed (for clarity, this is not a specific Cultural Advisor role)
