About the role

The Health Promotion Officer is responsible for increasing awareness and supporting positive health behaviour change through the development and delivery of culturally safe health promotion activities.

This role focuses on increasing participation in cancer screening and health prevention across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will deliver community education, coordinate events and develop culturally appropriate promotional materials.

Working closely with internal teams and community stakeholders, the Health Promotion Officer supports Waminda's commitment to self-determination, empowerment and community-led health initiatives.

What you'll be doing

  • Plan, develop, and deliver community-led health promotion and cancer screening awareness campaigns.
  • Host culturally safe health events that encourage screening participation.
  • Develop health promotion resources and materials that are culturally appropriate and accessible.
  • Promote community awareness during cancer awareness days, weeks, and months.
  • Support improvements in data collection systems and contribute to continuous quality improvement (CQI).
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Elders, health providers, schools and community organisations.
  • Actively contribute to reflective practice, evaluation and service integration.

What we're looking for

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, Public Health, Community Development or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering community-based health promotion initiatives, ideally in Aboriginal communities.
  • Understanding of cancer screening programs and culturally safe health messaging.
  • Strong project coordination, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Experience working cross-culturally with a commitment to Aboriginal community-led approaches.
  • Competency with data systems and digital tools to support health promotion.
  • A valid NSW/ACT Driver's Licence, National Police Check and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
