Australia Gold Fields Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Gold Fields Australia is excited to launch a new role for a highly skilled and forward-thinking Principal Specialist: Hydrogeology (Global) within our Corporate Technical Services team.

The Opportunity:

This is a rare, career-defining chance to shape hydrogeological excellence across a globally diverse portfolio of underground and open pit operations spanning Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Chile, Peru, and Canada. You will play a critical role in developing and implementing value-adding hydrogeological solutions, ensuring best-practice methodologies across the mining value chain—from life-of-mine studies to operational troubleshooting.

If you thrive in a collaborative environment, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have a proven track record in hydrogeological engineering with a focus on continuous improvement, we invite you to contribute to our innovative culture.

This role can be based in any location where Gold Fields operates, offering flexibility for the right candidate.

Your Impact:

This is a hands-on, technically focused leadership role that blends deep expertise with strategic thinking and collaborative influence across the group portfolio. You will:

  • Provide a technical service to the operations through the optimisation of hydrogeological systems including improvements to hydrogeological standards, guidelines and QAQC, while ensuring all hydrogeological risks are identified, evaluated and appropriately controlled.
  • Participate in projects requiring hydrogeological inputs to optimise mine design.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control programs are maintained.
  • Update Group standards and procedures related to hydrogeological monitoring as required, ensuring standardisation across the Group.
  • Provide guidance to the technical services teams across the group and ensure that adequate hydrogeological consideration is captured in all aspects of mine design, planning and scheduling including short, mid, and longer-term projects.
  • Collaborate with key mining and mine planning personnel to trouble shoot hydrogeological challenges within the operations.
  • Assist in the training and development of geotechnical and mining engineers on the various functions of hydrogeological management in the operations, including the upskilling of the workforce in mine hydrogeological practices.
  • Actively seek out new technologies, systems, and practices to improve on the current practices including innovative solutions to ensure Gold Fields adheres to industry best practice.

Your Experience:

You are an experienced hydrogeologist who brings deep operational knowledge, strong problem-solving capability, and a passion for technical excellence. You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geochemistry, or Environmental Science
  • Extensive experience in hydrogeological management, preferably including senior-level roles at active mine sites
  • Demonstrated experience in project, cost, and contractor management
  • A strong understanding of mining regulations and industry standards
  • AusIMM membership (desirable)
  • A valid manual driver's licence

Applications can be submitted via:
