About the opportunity
The Technical Officer will work within the School of Natural Sciences, primarily within the Field and Fleet area, but will also provide cross-disciplinary technical support across all areas of the School including undergraduate teaching laboratories, research laboratories, and other research facilities, to ensure smooth and safe operations that support the School's teaching and research objectives. The School of Natural Sciences trains the next generation of leaders in science, technology, and mathematics—disciplines that underpin Australia's future capability and innovation.
What you'll do:
- Support the day-to-day field and fleet operations by ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant use of field equipment and assets.
- Maintain field stores and associated assets, ensuring equipment is well-organised, serviceable, and properly maintained.
- Assist other School Technical Officers with the planning, preparation, and delivery of undergraduate field trips and laboratory classes.
- Contribute to fieldwork and laboratory safety management by assisting in the review of risk assessments.
- Assist in the coordination of laboratory operations, supporting the safe and efficient management of teaching and research laboratories.
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrated experience in fieldwork, project planning, and risk assessments.
- Strong hazard identification and risk mitigation skills, with demonstrated experience in Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) processes.
- Experience maintaining and coordinating a diverse range of assets, such as laboratory and/or field equipment.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to use initiative, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate documentation and maintain detailed records, with a strong focus on quality and compliance.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $105,665 comprising base salary within the range of $80,869 to $90,312 plus 17% superannuation.
