Shire Of Waroona, Australia Alcoa Full time $104,000 - $150,000 per year

Shape Your World

At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper, world-shaper.

We're offering two exciting opportunities to grow your engineering career at our Wagerup Refinery:

Mechanical Reliability Engineer – OC1 (Raw Materials & Digestion)

Step into a newly created role focused on driving mechanical and reliability improvements. Unlike traditional engineering roles, you'll deliver targeted engineering packages, not day-to-day support under the guidance of the Area Senior Mechanical Engineer.

You'll collaborate with OC1 engineers, central reliability and asset integrity teams, and Alcoa's Centre of Excellence to:

  • Lead improvement projects addressing safety, quality, and equipment performance

  • Implement new technologies and cost-saving solutions

  • Develop predictive and preventative maintenance strategies

  • Conduct root cause analyses and define scopes for major repairs

  • Support capital projects and enhance equipment documentation and spares

Mechanical Engineer – OC2 (Clarification)

In this hands-on role, you'll support production equipment and facilities, troubleshoot issues, and lead projects that improve reliability and uptime. You'll also respond to breakdowns and implement long-term fixes.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engineering solutions to recurring equipment and safety issues

  • Managing capital and expense projects from scope to execution

  • Ensuring compliance with engineering standards

  • Enhancing maintenance strategies and addressing equipment obsolescence

What's on offer

  • Attractive remuneration and variable bonus plan.

  • Generous Parental leave

  • One additional paid Alcoa Flexi Day.

  • Alcoa Live Well program offering travel, lifestyle, health and wellbeing discounts.

  • Generous leave entitlements including a leisure a day off every 4-week period.

  • Salary packaging for a novated car lease, employee share plan and superannuation options.

What you can bring to the role

  • A tertiary Engineering qualification (Engineers Australia-recognised)
  • Experience in maintenance, reliability, or heavy industry
  • Strong problem-solving, initiative, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with risk, quality, and reliability frameworks
  • OC2 role: experience with pumps, tanks, thickeners, and welding is a plus

Additional information

  • Interviews may progress prior to the closing date, although all applications will be considered.

  • You will only be contacted if you are shortlisted for an interview, this process can take up to four weeks from the closing date.

Be part of shaping our organisation and join us in building a legacy of excellence for future generations.
