Job description:

The Opportunity:Survey Management Solutions has an exciting new opportunity for a Utility Locator/Ground Penetration Permit Co-Ordinator to join our high performing team working on a variety of projects across Victoria

Any given day may see you…

• Coordinate the issuance, tracking, and approval of Ground Penetration Permits (GPP) to ensure safe and compliant excavation and ground disturbance activities
• Ensure all ground penetration activities comply with workplace health and safety (WHS) legislation and organisational policies, preventing accidents or damage to underground assets.
• Verify that all permit applications adhere to relevant regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards for excavation and ground disturbance
• Conduct or oversee risk assessments for proposed ground penetration activities, identifying potential hazards and ensuring proper controls are in place
• Act as the central point of contact between project teams, utility providers, and regulatory bodies to facilitate efficient and effective permit approvals
• Ensure the protection of underground infrastructure, such as pipelines, cables, and utilities, by coordinating site surveys, including Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) assessments and utility locates
• Maintain accurate records of all permits, risk assessments, and approvals. Provide regular reports on permit status, compliance metrics, and related activities to management.
• Provide guidance and training to teams on the GPP process, safe excavation practices, and compliance requirements to enhance operational awareness and safety
• Identify opportunities to streamline the GPP process and improve safety outcomes through feedback, audits, and lessons learned
• Assist in the management of incidents related to ground penetration, including coordinating with relevant authorities and implementing corrective actions
• Location of Underground Services using EMR and GPR when required
• Assist and work with NDD operations, survey and crew leaders when required
• Assisting and advising in the development of Asset Protection Plans

A person with strong underground utility experience that is wanting to become part of a new and developing team in emerging markets.

They must:

• Hold current BYDA Certified Locator Accreditation
• Demonstrate experience working on large Infrastructure projects
• Demonstrate exposure to Permit to Work processes
• Demonstrated ability in proactively building relationships with key stakeholders and team members.
• Be outcomes focused and have the ability plan and keep organised.
• Have a customer focused mindset.
• An attitude that engages all individuals by way of clear communication and effective interaction.
