About the role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Horse Attendant to join our team at International Racehorse Transport in Mickleham, Victoria.

This is a casual role, offering the opportunity to work closely with our team of dedicated professionals in the care and transportation of racehorses.

Candidates must have full Australian work rights to be eligible for this position.

What you'll be doing

  1. Providing high-quality care and handling of racehorses, including feeding, grooming, and exercising
  2. Assisting with the loading and unloading of horses onto our specialised transport vehicles
  3. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment for the horses and your colleagues
  4. Monitoring the health and wellbeing of the horses in your care
  5. Reporting any issues or concerns to the senior horse handlers and management team
  6. Adhering to all safety protocols and procedures

What we're looking for

  1. High attention to detail – critical observation skills needed.
  2. Strong self-initiative, able to work alone the majority of the time.
  3. Must be able to spot early signs of illness or colic
  4. Proven experience in racing stables, stud farms, or other high-intensity equine operations.
  5. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in racing stables, stud farms, or high-intensity equine operations is required.

  • Reliable, calm, and professional under pressure.
  • Skilled in horse husbandry and handling valuable livestock.
  • Mature, decisive, and self-motivated.

Conditions - shift availability

  • Evening shift 2pm–10pm
  • Night shift 10pm–6am.
  • Some weekend work required
  • Night roster will be shared evenly with two other staff.
  • Flexible scheduling to suit lifestyle.
