A bit about the role

Undertake investigations under the Environment Protection Act 2017, along with other relevant Acts, Regulations, Local Laws, and Council policies, specifically relating to littering and illegal dumping for the purpose of enforcement and compliance.

Provide education, advice, and support to the community on environmental legislation and Council policies, promoting awareness and compliance with state and local laws.

What you'll deliver

  • Legislative Enforcement
    : Enforce the Environment Protection Act 2017 and other relevant legislation, ensuring compliance with Council's regulatory responsibilities.
  • Community Engagement
    : Educate and support the community in understanding and adhering to environmental laws and responsible waste disposal practices.
  • Investigation & Legal Support
    : Conduct investigations, compile evidence, prepare legal documentation, and represent Council in court when required.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    : Build and maintain productive relationships with internal teams, community groups, businesses, and external agencies to support litter management initiatives.
  • Operational Duties
    : Perform on-ground tasks including waste collection and use of Council vehicles to carry out enforcement activities.
  • Project & Issue Management
    : Monitor timelines, anticipate challenges, problem solve and contribute innovative solutions to improve environmental outcomes.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in a local government enforcement position is preferred including understanding of the Environment Protection Act
  • Strong investigation and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Drive a vehicle and have current drivers' licence
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio)
