Microsoft Fabric Engineer – Data Engineer

Location: Sydney, Australia (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Type: Contract

Duration: Jan April 2026 (possible extension)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Engineer / Data Engineer to support a data transformation initiative aimed at uplifting Data & Analytics capabilities for a leading Sydney-based client. This engagement is business-as-usual (BAU) in nature and offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies within a collaborative hybrid environment.

This role is suited to a highly capable data engineering professional who excels in modern data platform engineering, medallion architecture, and secure, scalable cloud-based data delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Microsoft Fabric and Azure services to support data transformation and BAU initiatives
  • Build and maintain a secure, stable, and scalable data environment
  • Deliver robust data ingestion, orchestration, and integration capabilities
  • Design and develop data models leveraging medallion architecture principles
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed strong data governance and drive project success
  • Contribute best-practice engineering standards and continuous improvement approaches
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven, hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure data products
  • Strong programming capability across Python, SQL, and PySpark
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT patterns, and data governance frameworks
  • Experience with Power BI, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with 4 days onsite in Sydney
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience delivering data transformation programs within financial services or similar regulated sectors
  • Familiarity with medallion architecture and modern data warehousing technologies
  • Exposure to enterprise-grade cloud data platform implementations
