ABOUT THE ROLE ON SNOWY 2.0 PROJECT

With 2,200 megawatts of dispatchable capacity, Snowy 2.0 project is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. The project involves linking two existing dams, Tantangara and Talbingo, through 27km of TBM/D&B tunnels and building a new underground power station. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

• Snowy 2.0 Hydropower project - Design review and design support at construction design stage for underground excavation in TBM and D&B, leading constructability discussions and interfaces with FGJV, participation in safety-in-design workshops.
• Meetings with Client and Owner, including daily geological monitoring meetings and Permit to Tunnel meetings. · Site support during construction phase in responding to FGJV requests for field (design) changes, requests for information, definition of non-conformity remedial measures, review of as-built documentation.
• Coordination with other Lombardi company offices for design support to site requests.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lead engineering Geologist will be part of the current DJV (Design Joint Venture) REDST (Resident Engineer Design Site Team) and will be based full-time in the Snowy 2.0 project sites/Cooma office during the execution phase of the Snowy 2.0 hydro project (NSW, Australia) and will be involved in day-to-day REDST team activities and tasks with regard to surface and sub-surface ground investigation, excavation and support of the D&B and TBM tunnels/adits, tunnel portals, shafts, caverns, intake portals and other project components.

Senior engineering geologist is expected to lead and mentor the Lombardi geology team.

REPORTS TO

Lead Resident Design Engineer or any other as per company's policy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The senior engineering geologist will be required to fulfil the following duties:

• Lead Lombardi geology team on site;
• Perform scheduling, resource planning and managing the REDST tasks related to geology studies and investigations;
• Liaise with the client (employer) safety officers, tunnel inspectors, security guards, section engineers, and surveyors to ensure the safety of DJV staff/DJV geologists during the geology field works and geological mapping;
• Attend regular internal/external meetings as requested by the Lead Resident Design Engineer or Project Manager and Project Director;
• Attend regular technical meetings with the contractor/Employer as requested by the Lead Resident Design Engineer;
• Oversee and conduct tunnels/shafts/cavern/access adits and portals geological mapping;
• Assess ground conditions and ground behaviors in response to the surface and underground excavations in accordance with the relevant technical specifications and drawings,
• Geology record-keeping for the surface and underground excavation and support works;
• Review geological mapping, geological/geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring documents, geotechnical testing results and other relevant documents as specified in the relevant specifications and drawings;
• Advise on tunnel/cut slope excavation and support methods, rock/soil support, fissure/consolidation/backfill/cavity grouting, probe drilling, over breaks treatment, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring and lab/in-situ testing in accordance with the project technical specifications and drawings;
• Geological/geotechnical investigation and data interpretation in relation to D&B and TBM excavations, shafts, caverns, cut slopes, and tunnel portals;
• Review and approve as-built geological drawings for D&B/TBM tunnels, gate shafts, caverns, tunnels and access adits, and tunnel portals;
• Review, advise and oversee, when required, surface and sub-surface ground investigation results/works, including borehole drilling and sampling, logging and geology data interpretation;
• Provide responses for the RFI submitted by the Client and/or the Employer regarding clarification on
• Geology and geotechnical information;
• Prepare and review 2D/3D geological models using relevant common software packages;
• Liaise with the Lead DJV REDST and DJV/Lombardi geologist/geotechnical specialists about the project technical specifications, design verifications and other technical-related matters, detailed design/as-built drawings review and approval process; and
• Other tasks and responsibilities related to geology/geotechnics as assigned by the LEAD Resident Engineer.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Should have at least 10-15 years of industry experience in ground investigation, D&B/TBM tunnel excavation and support, caverns, shafts, adits and surface excavation and support;
• Should have a degree in Engineering Geology or equivalent, and have preferably professional registration status;
• Preferably be familiar with tunneling observational methods i.e NATM as well as TBM tunneling with respect to geological/geotechnical assessment during excavation and instrumentation and monitoring systems and data interpretation;
• Familiar with advanced tunnel/underground geological software and system; i.e. Leapfrog, gINT, Shape Matrix, Dips, Swedge/Unwedge, etc.
• A valid driving license;
