Bayside, Australia People Equity Pty Ltd Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

This is MUCH more than a State Manager role — this is your opportunity to drive growth, inspire performance and shape the next chapter of a proudly independent retail success story

Why You'll Love This Company & Role

This isn't your average supermarket group. It's a proudly independent, community-first retailer — a business that combines commercial strength with genuine heart and a long-term vision for growth.

You'll be joining a company that:

  • Is on a powerful growth trajectory, continually innovating its offer and driving sales performance across every department, region and state.
  • Values collaboration, trust, and shared success — where every leader's voice counts and decisions are made together.
  • Brings together high-performing, capable leaders who inspire their teams and deliver exceptional results.
  • Offers perks well beyond a highly competitive salary, recognising loyalty and rewarding achievement and commitment.
  • Encourages you to be bold, commercial, and impactful — leading with purpose and influencing outcomes at every turn.

About the Company

With over 80 supermarkets nationwide, with Victoria by far the largest of their states, this independently owned retailer has built a reputation for freshness, quality, and value — and a genuine commitment to customers and communities. Grounded in strong heritage yet forward-focused, this business continues to invest in store innovation, systems, and people development, ensuring it remains a trusted and progressive leader in the independent supermarket sector. It's a place where results matter, innovation is encouraged, and leaders are empowered to make real impacts.

The Opportunity

This is more than a State Manager position — it's a career-defining opportunity to shape culture, drive sales growth, and influence the ongoing success of a market-leading supermarket group.

Working to your strengths you will:

  • Head up the $780M Victorian state (55 supermarkets) taking full accountability for sales, profitability, people development, and operational excellence
  • Lead impact-fully your sizeable and highly capable Supermarket Supervisors (Area/Regional Managers) & State Fresh Leaders— ensuring to build capability and to inspire ambition, that will result in the delivery of strong, measurable results and outcomes.

In short, as the business enters its next phase of expansion, you'll be instrumental in lifting performance, elevating standards, and unlocking sales potential through strategic execution and inspiring leadership.

What You'll Do

  • Drive sales and profit: Implement strategies that deliver consistent sales growth, margin improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Inspire leadership: Coach and empower your team of Supermarket Supervisors (Area/Regional Managers) and State Fresh Leaders as well as their teams to achieve and exceed performance targets.
  • Champion customer experience: Ensure every store delivers service, quality, and presentation that exceed expectations.
  • Execute with precision: Translate strategy into action, ensuring accountability, performance, and results at every level.
  • Lead commercial initiatives: Analyse performance data, identify opportunities, and implement initiatives that grow revenue and efficiency.
  • Collaborate to grow: Partner with merchandise, operations, and marketing to align regional performance with national priorities.
  • Shape the next chapter: Bring fresh thinking, innovation, and leadership influence on the future direction of the business.

Who You Are

  • A proven sales and operations leader in a multi-site retail operations leadership role of similar scale and dimension.
  • Ideally your experience comes from within supermarkets, where you have held roles at a Regional, State or National level. Other senior level, large format retail operations experience will be considered however Supermarket and Fresh Food (fruit/meat/deli/bakery) experience is ideal at some point in your background.
  • Known for driving results through people — blending sharp commercial instinct with genuine care and connection.
  • A hands-on and impactful leader who thrives on metrics, accountability, sales and seeing results come to life.
  • A strategic operator who balances short-term wins with long-term growth plans.
  • A developer of leaders, capable of growing capability, confidence, and culture across large teams.
  • A resilient, forward-thinking professional who thrives in change and sees possibility where others see pressure.

Lead. Drive. Deliver.

If you're ready to take the next step in your leadership journey in one of Australia's most respected supermarket groups — this is your moment.
