Our Threatened Species & Ecosystem Policy branch is currently seeking to appoint a Secretariat, Threatened Species Scientific Committee to provide critical administrative, financial and secretariat support to the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC). This role plays a vital part in helping the Committee meet its legislative responsibilities under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Intergovernmental Agreement on a Common Assessment Method
You will be responsible for preparing meeting agendas and minutes, managing Committee correspondence, coordinating budgets, maintaining records and liaising with internal and external stakeholders. Your work will directly contribute to the effective listing and protection of threatened species and ecological communities in NSW.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing Committee priorities and workload, including information flow to and from the Committee with the Department
- Coordinate and deliver high-level secretariat support to the TSSC, including meeting preparation, minute-taking, inter-jurisdictional liaison and follow-up actions
- Support administration of Committee budgets, track expenditures and provide financial reporting in line with government protocols
- Maintain and enhance information systems to support Committee operations
- Draft and quality-assure reports, correspondence and briefing materials for senior stakeholders and government representatives
- Facilitate communication between the Committee, government departments and interjurisdictional partners
About You
You're a confident and capable administrator with a strong understanding of government processes and financial systems. You thrive in fast-paced, complex environments and are skilled at balancing multiple priorities with accuracy and efficiency.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in administrative or financial support roles within government or related sectors
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to anticipate the needs of senior leaders and committee members
- Experience preparing formal correspondence and reports, often involving confidential or sensitive information
- Familiarity with biodiversity or environmental science (desirable but not essential)
