In the Asia Pacific region (SLR APAC), SLR has over 1,000 employees located throughout 24 offices. Our globally integrated Mining Advisory Group includes Geologists, Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geotechnical Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Environmental Scientists with extensive experience in the mining and exploration industries.
With team members in Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa, SLR's Mining Advisory Group provides advisory services to the mining sector at all stages of project development from exploration and resource evaluation through scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, financing, permitting, construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation. We provide support to major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, financial institutions, governments, law firms and individual investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property development and have extensive experience in all commodities and mining areas of the world.
SLR is currently seeking a Principal Engineer – Maintenance and Infrastructure to join our Advisory group. The role is primarily responsible for the provision of consulting services to our clients and requires extensive experience in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Projects and Maintenance roles. Experience as a Project Manager, senior operational maintenance roles in the mining industry, exposure to financial modelling skills or Lenders Engineering, would be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will have on-site experience in mines in maintenance, mine infrastructure and/or projects, whilst prior exposure to consulting would be advantageous.
This role will enable the successful candidate to rapidly gain experience across various studies and types of mining, while working with a team of leading specialists in all aspects of the mining value chain. An interest in working on projects and assignments globally is key to this role, along with a willingness to collaborate with Clients and colleagues from varied cultural backgrounds.
Job tasks and responsibilities
This is a permanent, full-time role based out of our Brisbane/Perth or Sydney offices however remote engagement would be considered for the right candidate. Irregular domestic and international travel is a requirement of this role.
- Global consulting projects such as pre-feasibility studies, technical reports and due diligences.
- Ensure client requirements are adequately defined and recorded.
- Verify the scope of work and deliver outcomes on time.
- Develop qualified leads and follow up on potential opportunities.
- Proposal planning and preparation.
- Contribution to technical development within the company.
- Working efficiently and effectively as Project Manager or as a technical expert.
- Collaborating with clients from project kick off to delivery, maintaining regular follow up engagement.
- Preparing and reviewing project reports as well as presenting key outcomes to clients.
- Maintaining a wide professional network within the mining industry to consolidate and expand SLR's client relationships.
Skills and experience
- Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering coupled with 10+ years working experience
- Is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland ("RPEQ") or is eligible and willing to work towards obtaining RPEQ status.
- Experience in the mining industry composed of onsite and consulting roles.
- High performance, technically strong, self-motivated individual.
- Extensive periods ideally at multiple mine sites in technical or operational roles.
- Have experience contributing to a broad range of project or operational reporting documentation i.e. reports, feasibility studies, etc.
- Knowledgeable of business principles and financial modelling.
- The ability to communicate complex solutions to a variety of customer stakeholders, from technical to non-technical.
- Strong communication skills and high level English language in both verbal and written form.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Australia.
- Post-graduate qualifications in business studies or similar is advantageous.
