Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic, motivated & dedicated Registered Nurses to advance their careers within Renal Services in our Postgraduate Renal Nursing Program intakes for 2026.

The Renal services at Northern Health provide care for acute and chronic renal patients across northern region. Services are located at Epping, Broadmeadows and Craigieburn campuses.

Outpatient haemodialysis is provided to patients at the satellite units, while the In-centre Dialysis unit mainly provides haemodialysis to acute in-patients and to patients starting their first treatments.

The Home Dialysis Training Unit support patients requiring peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis to have home-based treatment.

About the program:

  • Northern Health's Postgraduate Nursing program in Renal Nursing commences in early February 2026
  • Program runs in partnership with UTAS
  • Students must hold permanent employment at Northern Health at minimum 64 hours per fortnight (0.8 EFT) in an NH Renal Unit or Ward 4
  • A full fee-paying program – NH staff will receive a fee discount as we hold a partnership with UTAS. Staff should expect to pay some out of pocked expenses
  • Students will be supported by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Support Nurses and Medical Nursing staff.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum of two years acute care Registered Nursing experience
  • Completed Supported Transition to Excellence in Practice (STEP Renal) or a minimum of 12 months experience in the Specialty area (Preferable),
  • Hold permanent employment in a Northern Health Renal ward/unit at minimum 0.8 EFT
  • Enrolled in the relevant university program
  • Commitment to a 12-month supported program inclusive of all academic and clinical requirements
  • Ability to work day, evening, weekend and night shifts as required by the unit, and to facilitate clinical assessment requirements and attend study days
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of reliability and professional conduct
  • Well-developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving, organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Highly motivated and willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated provision of quality of patient care
