You're an
Engineering Manager
who thrives on shaping both people and technical outcomes. You bring strong technical judgement and proven leadership skills, creating an environment where engineers can do their best work. You naturally partner with product managers and designers, balancing delivery speed with long-term quality and scalability. You care deeply about team health and engineering excellence, and you're motivated by delivering impactful software that meets both customer and business needs.

About the role

Key Responsibilities include:

  • People Leadership:
    Build and lead a high-performing team by hiring, coaching, and developing engineers, ensuring clear career paths and growth opportunities.
  • Technical Direction:
    Provide technical guidance and oversight, ensuring architectural decisions and engineering practices support scalability, maintainability, and business alignment.
  • Delivery Management:
    Drive execution by setting clear goals, managing scope, and removing blockers, ensuring the team delivers high-quality features on time.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Partner with product managers and designers to shape roadmaps and prioritise work, balancing customer value, technical health, and strategic goals.
  • Culture & Practices:
    Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement. Promote engineering best practices across code quality, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
  • Strategic Initiatives:
    Contribute to broader engineering-wide initiatives that improve developer experience, system reliability, and the organisation's ability to scale.
  • Communication:
    Ensure alignment within the team and across the company by communicating priorities, risks, and progress clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you'll bring:

Technical Skills:

  • Solid background in software engineering with the ability to understand and review technical designs and trade-offs.
  • Knowledge of modern development practices including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience guiding teams through architectural decisions and complex system design challenges.

Leadership & Mentoring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Skilled in coaching engineers at different career stages, from juniors through to seniors.
  • Ability to foster team alignment, resolve conflicts, and guide technical decision-making.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Strong communicator with the ability to bridge engineering, product, and business perspectives.
  • Track record of building trust and alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and adjusting course as needed.

Experience:

  • Several years of experience as a software engineer followed by leadership in an engineering manager or team lead role.
  • Proven ability to deliver software at scale in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
  • Experience balancing short-term product delivery with long-term technical health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant university degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in SaaS, cloud-native architectures, and scaling engineering organisations.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and product-led engineering practices.
  • Background in driving organisational improvements, from hiring processes to technical governance.
