We're looking for a Senior Front End Engineer to join our team.
The Position As a Senior Front End Engineer you will be a key contributor to the development of experiences that meet our customers needs. You will apply your expertise to design, develop, test, and maintain responsive and performant user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks, especially React. At HappyCo we empower our teams to solve problems in ways our customers and partners love and that work for our business. Working alongside Product Managers, Designers and Engineers you will help advance us along our technology roadmap, leveraging your experience to ensure the user experience is optimised to deliver a performant, scalable and best in class experience to our customers.
You will bring your experience translating product requirements and UI/UX designs into clean, efficient code, ensuring you identify potential problems and risks in both the code and feature design and communicate these with your peers. You will be able to take moderately complex products and features and break down work into tasks and deliver them in collaboration with your team, ensuring that value can be delivered to customers early. As an AI-powered company, we equip you with the latest tools and services to amplify your impact every day. We provide our engineers with the opportunity to work across our technical stack (React, Ruby, GraphQL, Golang) but front end experience will be essential to be successful in this role.
During your first week you will:
  • Setup your Development Environment
  • Push your first front end change for review and deployment
  • Get to know our leadership, culture, and values
  • Familiarize yourself with our products, systems and tools
During your first six weeks you will:
  • Onboard with the product, design and engineering teams
  • Implement well structured code aligned to our product architecture and engineering principles
  • Interact with our customers and customer representatives, either directly or asynchronously, to build an understanding of their needs and to increase your domain knowledge
  • Work with your Product Team to apply your Front End expertise to solve customer problems that will progress you towards achieving your team outcomes
  • Attend your first Company Wide Meeting (quarterly)
During your first six months you will:
  • Assist in driving the improvement of software development processes ensuring the early delivery of value to our customers
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to other software engineering staff in Front End Engineering practices
  • Continue to develop your knowledge and technical skills to grow your engineering capability
  • Champion our culture of transparency, success and happiness
Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Bachelor/Grad Dip. Science/Computer Science/Software Engineering, IT Certification or similar) or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 5 years proven working experience in front end software development
  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Strong experience with React and modern frontend frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience in building solutions based on an understanding of your users and the objectives of the business
  • Experience translating design artifacts e.g. Figma prototypes, into scalable and maintainable front-end code.
  • Demonstrable experience in taking complex solutions and breaking them into development iterations that provide early value to customers
  • Deep understanding of the use of APIs such as GraphQL in front end software applications
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), performance optimization and experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Playwright)
  • Sound understanding of design and architectural patterns, and coding practices
  • Experience with software development and quality processes, especially Agile development methodologies
  • Positive work attitude and a growth mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment across multiple time zones (North America and AUS) requiring effective asynchronous communication
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • Familiarity with Ruby, GoLang, GraphQL
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build tools like Bazel
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including an understanding of performance tuning techniques
  • Knowledge of design systems and component libraries (e.g., Storybook, Mantine)
  • Experience working in a B2B / SaaS / Agency environment
