About the role

Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for an Administration Officer to work as part of the World Heritage team based locally and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment and provision of services to the community and visitors to beautiful Lord Howe Island.

As the Administrative Officer, you will deliver a high level of administrative support services to enable business and customer service outcomes. Your role will enable exceptional service delivery through the provision of essential and diverse administrative functions including, human resource management, finance, and clerical support. You will also provide general advice, information and assistance to residents, visitors, and other stakeholders by actively engaging in person, over the counter, email and via phone, to deliver on business objectives.

About You

Your passion for your community and environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail will be key to your success in this role. You're highly organised and have well developed administrative skills and experience. You thrive in a fast paced and diverse environment and can manage competing priorities with ease.

Essential requirements

  • Well-developed administrative skills and experience.
  • Competency or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire competency in financial and records management systems and software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Sound organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while undertaking a diverse and high-volume workload.

Relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.

Who we are

Lord Howe Island is located in the Tasman Sea approximately 700km north east of Sydney and is part of NSW. The Island has a high proportion of rare and endemic birds, plants, and invertebrates, and has the southernmost coral reef in the world. Three-quarters of the Island is within the Permanent Park Preserve, which is managed similarly to a national park. There are approximately 445 residents, and tourism is the major industry and source of income on the Island. Approximately 16,000 people visit the Island each year and there are 21 accommodation lodges.

The Lord Howe Island Board (the Board) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953. The Board is responsible to the NSW Minister for the Environment and comprises four Islanders elected by the local community and three members appointed by the Minister. It is charged with the care, control and management of the Island and the affairs and trade of the Island. It is also responsible for the care, improvement and welfare of the Island and residents. "Island" as defined by the Act includes Lord Howe Island and all adjacent islands and coral reefs within one marine league of the Island. Ball's Pyramid and adjacent islands are also included in this definition.

Lord Howe Island Board members and staff are employed under section 21 of the Government Sector Employment and Management Act 2013, by DCCEEW.
