Job Description
To support the continued growth of the Australia and New Zealand Open Market Casualty portfolio and ensure long-term, profitable, and sustainable expansion, we are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team in Sydney.

The role will report to Head of Casualty, Australia and New Zealand and this role will be instrumental in managing existing binders while also driving new business development.

Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite single-risk Open Market opportunities including new business, renewals, and endorsements.
  • Take ownership of various binders, managing day-to-day referrals and overseeing the renewal process.
  • Operate within delegated underwriting authority and escalate referrals with clear recommendations when required.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the Lloyd's of London model, including internal systems, premium booking, and credit control processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Underwriting Support, Delegated Authority, and other operational departments.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant underwriting files and documentation.
  • Proactively manage upcoming risks and renewal timelines in coordination with brokers.
  • Monitor underwriting workloads and ensure timely completion of risk records in line with underwriting guidelines.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to support business development.
  • Coordinate and document Underwriting team meetings, including agendas, minutes, and action item follow-ups.
  • Actively support and promote Diversity and Inclusion initiatives across the company and within the Australia and New Zealand region.

Qualifications
Skills and Experience

  • Proven underwriting experience in Casualty product lines, including General Liability, Primary, Umbrella, and Excess, within the Australian market.
  • Prior experience managing binders or facilities is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute underwriting strategies, consistently meeting ambitious yet achievable targets and KPIs.
  • Strong broker network across Australia, with the ability to generate new business and contribute to portfolio growth.
  • Willingness to collaborate on cross-class opportunities where they align with profitability goals.
  • High attention to detail and a thorough understanding of underwriting processes and compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other core IT systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working within a Lloyd's syndicate environment would be a plus.
