About us

Finity is the market-leading actuarial consulting and strategic analytics firm in Australia and New Zealand. We are proud to be the only actuarial consulting firm to have been recognised by ANZIIF as the Insurance Industry's Professional Services Firm of the Year, with six awards in the past decade, most recently in 2023, 2024 and

We combine deep industry expertise with a unique breadth of technological capability to deliver innovative and practical advice and solutions to a broad base of over 450 clients. Alongside our more traditional offering of strategic advisory services, software products and solutions are now a core part of what we do. Over a quarter of our clients are currently using one or more of Finity's 16 cutting-edge software products.

At Finity, you'll be part of a collaborative, cross-functional team working alongside actuaries, data scientists, engineers and software developers. Our products include rating engines, underwriting platforms, geospatial tools, climate risk models, and other API-driven solutions—designed to help our clients make faster and better-informed business decisions.

The Role

Due to continuing growth in demand for our products and solutions we are looking for a talented and driven Consultant who specialises in software, data and AI solutions to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Heads of Product and Heads of AI to help shape and deliver web, API and AI solutions for insurance-specific tools and services. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical and analytical skills in an environment that values innovation, collaboration, and growth.

Key responsibilities

Consulting & Client Engagement

  • Partner with clients to understand business needs, challenges, and opportunities where software, data, and AI can add value.
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to proposals, tenders, and presentations to support business development.

Solution Design & Delivery

  • Translate business requirements into detailed specifications for technical stakeholders such as software engineers.
  • Support the design, build, and implementation of data-driven and AI-enabled solutions, working alongside technical and domain experts.
  • Contribute to, and/or lead where relevant, software development, analytics, and modelling work as required.
  • Ensure deliverables meet client expectations for quality, cost, and impact.

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work cross-functionally with consultants, software engineers, and analysts to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to team capability-building in software engineering, data science, or AI application.
  • Support more junior team members through coaching and collaboration.

Thought Leadership & Growth

  • Stay across emerging trends in software, data, and AI to bring fresh ideas and solutions to client projects.
  • Contribute to internal R&D and intellectual property development.
  • Build your own professional profile through learning, certifications, and sharing insights internally or externally.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work with developers and cross-functional teams to deliver SaaS products.
  • Insurance knowledge or Actuarial Background: Solid understanding of actuarial principles or experience in the insurance industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Experience working within the realm of software engineering or computer science, with a strong foundation in programming fundamentals (not just scripting). Formal qualification for this is not a requirement for this, hand-on experience is acceptable. Experience with, or involvement with a team that performs AI/ML engineering is ideal
  • Programming language Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Python, SQL or other common programming language, including building and maintaining software solutions.
  • Experience Level: 2-5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Project management skills: Ability to lead project teams using relevant methodologies (Scrum, Lean, Agile, Waterfall, etc.) depending on project needs and client requirements
  • Innovation mindset: An agile, curious, problem-solving and client-first mindset

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Generative AI Expertise: Hands-on experience with Generative AI (GenAI) models, which could include prototyping and integrating AI/ML solutions into actuarial workflows.
  • API Understanding: Familiarity with APIs, such as FastAPI and the API development life cycle, or similar Python frameworks.
  • Database knowledge: a working understanding of database structures and design.

Why join us?

  • Work with Industry Leaders: Collaborate directly with the Heads of Product & Solutions and Heads of AI.
  • Diverse Projects: Contribute to the development and delivery of 16 innovative data, automation, and insights products.
  • Cross-Functional Team: Be part of a collaborative and dynamic team of actuaries, data scientists, and software engineers.
