Role details

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Senior Dietitian (Community) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

• To work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit and to be a team member in a nurse led multidisciplinary team for First Nations and vulnerable populations with chronic conditions.  This model aligns with the MHHS strategies, plans and frameworks to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
• The model is implemented within the primary health care and prevention setting, with an aim to reduce avoidable Emergency Department presentations, reduce potentially preventable hospitalisations and provide timely and appropriate access to care closer to home and in culturally appropriate settings, within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service.
• To deliver nutrition and dietetics services to Queensland Health clients within the MHHS. This position works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the provision of quality nutrition and dietetic services to patients within the Health Service across the care continuum.
• The caseload will be a combination of prevention and management of acute and subacute medical chronic diseases.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit is an essential element of the Mackay Hospital and Health Service support services and ensures the development and delivery of culturally appropriate services and models of health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families.
