The Governance and Legal Team supports Monash City Council across the areas of Insurance, Claims, Governance, FOI and Privacy, Councillor Support, Legal Services, Civic Operations and Information Management.
About The Position
The role is a key role and is responsible for driving and embedding good governance across the Council. The position will oversight governance, council meetings and agendas, policy, legislative compliance, delegations and authorisations, FOI requests and privacy.
Skills And Experience
- Leading the Council Meetings function and ensuring the quality of reports, agendas, and minutes
- Ensuring that Council meets its governance requirements under the Local Government Act 2020
- Managing Council's policy framework including review and compliance
- Oversighting the FOI and Privacy function
- Assisting the Manager with key governance projects including mayoral elections, general elections, Councillor induction and other projects
- Providing advice and guidance to the Council on corporate governance matters
Requirements
- Extensive experience and a demonstrated history of achievement in a similar role
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply legislation and policy
- A demonstrated understanding of working within a regulatory and political context
- Excellent time management and excellent attention to detail
- A drive for continuous improvement in the governance space
- High levels of personal integrity and confidentiality
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
