Based in Brisbane and reporting to the Manager – Business Strategy, you will be responsible for providing advanced geotechnical expertise to ensure mine stability, safety, and long-term value, while supporting strategic planning and performance across open-pit and underground operations.

Your role will involve:

  • Lead and contribute to geotechnical studies across all project phases, from Scoping through to Feasibility;
  • Serve as the accountable technical lead for all geotechnical aspects of strategic developments;
  • Develop, calibrate, and maintain advanced 2D and 3D numerical models to assess slope stability and underground performance;
  • Integrate geotechnical risk profiles into business strategy and mine planning to optimize safety and value;
  • Collaborate with geology, mining, hydrogeology, and finance teams to ensure cohesive and data-driven mine planning;
  • Identify, quantify, and communicate geotechnical risks and develop mitigation strategies to manage uncertainty; and
  • Promote the use of advanced digital tools, simulation, and data analytics to enhance predictive accuracy and decision-making.

To be considered, you must possess the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree  in Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering;
  • At least 10+ years' geotechnical engineering experience within the mining industry, ideally across both open-pit and underground operation;
  • A valid Visa and working rights to work in Australia;
  • Proven experience leading numerical modelling programs and strategic geotechnical studies;
  • Advanced proficiency in numerical modelling and simulation software (e.g., FLAC3D, RS2, PLAXIS, Slide, or SEEP/W);
  • Strong understanding of geomechanics, hydrogeology, and rock mass behaviour, with the ability to apply expert judgement in data-limited settings;
  • Demonstrated capability in multi-disciplinary collaboration, linking geotechnical performance with business strategy and financial outcomes;
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to senior executive and non-technical audiences; and
  • Strategic, analytical, and innovative mindset with a commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
