Position Overview

The Senior Instructional Designer, acting as a Training Content Manager and Training Delivery Lead, leads the design and development of training content for our global organisation headquartered in Australia. In this role, the Instructional Designer creates effective and engaging learning experiences that meet organisational goals, collaborating with subject matter experts to design and implement training programs ensuring that materials align with learning principles while being tailored to various customer profiles, emphasising both eLearning moules and instructor-led training (ILT). The Senior Instructional Designer champions a train-the-trainer approach to empower internal facilitators and works cross-functionally to align training initiatives with business and customer needs, from conducting needs analysis and curriculum design through to defining learning objectives and measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Requirements

  • Conduct thorough training needs analysis with cross-functional stakeholders to identify skill gaps and training requirements. Develop comprehensive curriculum plans with defined learning objectives, outcomes, and evaluation strategies to ensure training solutions are targeted and effective.
  • Lead the design and development of engaging training programs, including interactive eLearning courses and instructor-led training materials. Define clear learning objectives and curricula that address identified skills gaps and support both business and customer needs.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and relevant teams to gather technical content and ensure accuracy and relevance in all training materials. Oversee content development activities, providing guidance to Content Developers in creating eLearning modules and instructor guides that maintain consistency and high quality across the program.
  • Leverage SCORM for content deployment and tracking. Ensure that learning content is properly configured and that course structures meet training profile needs. Coordinate with stakeholders to package and customise learning modules into programs as required for different profiles or customers.
  • Manage and Maintain the Ocean LMS courses ensuring content is updated and available to clients in coordination with application release.
  • Implement and manage a train-the-trainer model to scale delivery of training programs. Coach and mentor internal training facilitators (Application/Solution Experts) (in-person and remote), equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and best practices needed to deliver content effectively and consistently. Provide facilitator guides and conduct "train-the-trainer" sessions to uphold instructional quality in global training delivery.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g. Product, Engineering, Customer Success) to ensure training initiatives stay aligned with evolving objectives, product updates, and customer requirements. Act as the liaison between the training function and other departments to integrate feedback and expertise into the learning solutions.
  • Establish assessment methods and feedback mechanisms to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Monitor and evaluate training impact through learner feedback and performance metrics and use data to continuously improve content and delivery methods. Stay current with industry learning trends and best practices, introducing innovative instructional strategies and technologies to enhance the training offering over time.
  • Support/Ensure all Ocean staff (New hires, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success) have a clear and consistent understanding of the company's product offerings and value proposition.
  • Work with department leaders to develop and maintain internal training packages to facilitate onboarding of new staff across the globe focusing on the internal business processes and applications utilised within their teams.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in instructional design, learning development, or training content creation in a corporate/technical environment. Proven track record of designing training for multiple delivery modalities (in-person classroom training, virtual instructor-led sessions, and online eLearning courses).
  • Deep knowledge of learning principles and instructional design methodologies to develop effective learning solutions. Ability to design curriculum and content that engage learners and achieve defined learning outcomes.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems and eLearning authoring tools. Comfortable working with multimedia content and adapting materials for online and face-to-face formats.
  • Outstanding project management and organisational skills, able to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with SMEs and stakeholders across different departments and regions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor others in a training capacity. Experience guiding junior training facilitators (e.g. through mentorship or leading train-the-trainer sessions) is highly valued.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and associated toolsets.
