Launceston Women's Shelter Inc. T/A Magnolia Place LWS is a Specialist Homelessness Service pro­vid­ing supported cri­sis accommodation for women and their chil­dren expe­rienc­ing homelessness. We are funded by Homes Tasmania and are a registered not-for-profit.  Our organisation is ded­i­cat­ed to rais­ing aware­ness of the con­se­quences of home­less­ness and fam­i­ly vio­lence in the com­mu­ni­ty and our vision is to be a leading advo­cate for a commu­ni­ty free of home­less­ness and fam­i­ly violence.

We are now seeking applications from women only for a highly rewarding position as Team Leader.   Launceston Women's Shelter Inc has an exemption from the Anti-Discrimination Act 1988.

Permanent Full Time – hours negotiable

Key Responsibilities:

In this role your key responsibility will be to work in close collaboration with the CEO, supporting her in her role with information sharing a priority.

Responsibilities also include

· Providing guidance and support to the team in collaboration with the CEO

· Coordinating rosters, leave arrangements, induction processes etc

· Facilitating case management meetings and organise regular team meetings

· Supporting professional development, performance and probationary reviews and mentoring

· Applying your initiative, existing knowledge, skills and experience to ensure service delivery remains in compliance with operational and funding obligations.

· Engaging with and build strong relationships with external stakeholders.

· Update the organisations Enterprise Agreement

Essential Requirements include:

  • Qualification in Social Work, and/or Community Services and experience working in the field with demonstrated experience in a leadership role and/or undertaking to participate in targeted management training
  • Strong understanding of family violence, homelessness and related issues
  • A commitment to the values of the Shelter - safe­ty, respect, inclu­sion, com­pas­sion, con­fi­den­tial­i­ty and empowerment.
  • A commitment to adhere to Organisation's Policies, Procedures and Ethics
  • Excellent communication, organisation and crisis response skills
  • Experience in report writing
  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • Valid driver's license

Selection Criteria:

A) Demonstrate an understanding of feminist philosophy.

B) Demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting women and children in relation to:

  • Homelessness
  • Family violence
  • Substance Abuse
  • Mental Health
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Social and Economic Disadvantage

C) Ability to adhere to the Organisation's Policies, Procedures and Ethics and experience in report writing.

D) Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, leading a team under general direction, to use effective time management skills, and to apply self-care (when employed within a crisis service).

E) Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality as it relates to employment within a high security crisis service.

F) Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of:

  • Conflict resolution
  • Working under pressure and responding appropriately in crisis situations

G) Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of:

  • Interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Microsoft office applications
  • Awareness of community networks and ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
