Your New Role

As a Trainee Detention Service Officer, you will maintain safety, security, and order within detention centres, ensuring the dignity and wellbeing of staff and detainees.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity located at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre with 7 weeks of training commencing on 6th October 2025 in Brisbane.

You'll work alongside a team of professionals to:

  • Foster a safe and respectful environment by engaging directly with detainees and reporting any concerns about abuse, impropriety, or health and wellbeing.

  • Ensure the centre operates smoothly, rotating across posts and assisting in high-priority areas to support staff and detainee safety.

  • Conduct screening and monitoring, including searches, security checks, and use of CCTV and alarm systems.

  • Respond to emergencies, follow critical incident protocols, and document all incidents and interactions in alignment with the Case Management Framework.

  • Perform headcounts, conduct welfare checks, and complete daily reports with accuracy and professionalism.

  • A keen eye for observation and risk assessment

  • Teamwork skills and a collaborative mindset

  • Critical thinking and practical problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to complete all required pre-employment checks including a functional assessment and drug & alcohol screening
