About the role

As part of our on-going contract with the Department of Justice, Ventia have a rare opportunity for a qualified and experienced Deputy Care and Security Manager to join the Kununurra Courthouse team in WA

This role will see you as a critical member of the Management team, where you will provide vital support to the Care & Security Manager and assist in the delivery of an effective and efficient court operation and support the development of your team.

In addition, you will ensure the correct deployment of staff across the region and be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the Care & Custody Officers under your control, as well as the management of custody areas within court.

This role with require you to attend a 6-week training course covering Ventia's policies and procedures, beginning on the 27th January 2026.

About you

Reporting directly into the Care & Security Manager you are approachable and possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills and you naturally adopt a collaborative and team-based approach to people management. You are analytical and a natural leader who can drive and embed best practise service delivery through the commitment of our people.

You possess excellent organisational capabilities and can identify and prioritise problems and issues, generate solutions and work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. You have a high degree of motivation, energy and initiative, with the capacity to deal with multiple and often conflicting priorities. This, coupled with your ability to ensure project outcomes are met in a safe, compliant and cost-effective manner will contribute to your success in this role.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

Supervise staff in the manned court areaPrepare duty rosters, including allocating daily duties and staffKeep abreast of and promote best practise trends to ensure this is embedded with the highest standard of governance, quality and compliance, via regular engagement with staffSupervise the handling of Persons in Custody to ensure they are dealt with in a caring and humane mannerMaintaining a direct relationship with the Control function that manages the operationLiaise with the Court Coordinator on all staffing mattersCheck all warrants and other relevant official paperwork in your delegated courtEnsure that all courts within the cluster are effectively mannedPositively contribute to a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment

Skills and experience:

Certificate III in Corrective PracticeControl and Restraint qualifiedSenior First Aid and CPR or equivalentDemonstrated experience supervising and supporting staff, preferably within a custodial environmentCommitment to continuous improvement and customer focused quality service deliveryThorough knowledge of the PIC court and custody businessExcellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership potentialGreat computer skills for the purposes of reporting and ensure the data capture management system (ePEMS) is kept up to date in all aspectsGreat communication skills in order to engage with stakeholders including courts and police amongst othersThe ability to problem solve and act on your own initiativeThe desire to form part of a wider team operating across the contractApplicants must be flexible (working hours) and have a positive outlookHold a Manual Driving Licence (MR or above high desirable)

Other mandatory conditions, to be eligible for this position:

an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizenhave the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Federal Police Check, Criminal History Check and Working with Children Checkundergo a pre-employment medical including a drug and alcohol test
