Wunan Health's Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre is a new six bed Alcohol and other Drug withdrawal Program in Kununurra. Wunan Health, is seeking to recruit a team of support workers, supporting our Multi-Disciplinary Team to help support recovery from alcohol and other drugs. The centre is staffed 24 hours per day so we are ideally seeking applications from people who can be available to work night shifts.

Key Duties:

To provide a safe, healthy and culturally secure environment for residents at Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC).

  • Maintain a visible presence during working hours and provide support to residents
  • 24-hour supervision and daily visual observations
  • Support resident treatment plans, promoting pro-health choices with sleep, tobacco smoking, diet and other health matters
  • Supervise activities, support the development of an evidence-based program and encourage residents to participate to the best of their ability
  • Supervise residents with medication, maintain medication records
  • Ensure the unit remains clean and tidy, contribute to any necessary preparation for new admissions including kitchen area, bedrooms and staff bathroom and bedroom facilities.
  • Provide accurate handover to the KWIC team, verbally and in writing, at the end of each shift

Requirements of the role

Essential Criteria:

  • A genuine passion for helping others through challenging times
  • Previous experience within a service environment and empathy for people
  • Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate, mediate and resolve conflict
  • Ability to work in a team

Desirable criteria:

  • Lived experience
  • Training in or experience with alcohol and other drug services
  • Aboriginal Australian
  • A strong understanding of Indigenous people in general and/or the remote communities of the Kimberley's.

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Australian unrestricted 'C' class Driver's license
