Moffatt & Nichol specialises in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Principal Port Planner with a specialisation in container terminals, general cargo/break-bulk terminals, multi-purpose terminals and offshore wind terminals in the Oceania Region. The Principal Port Planner will be part of a team in the business development, planning, analysis, and design of ports and terminals. The right candidate will help build business around their own area of maritime expertise, have their own contacts in the regional market, and be a part of the international leadership team that drives this service line for Moffatt & Nichol.

Duties and responsibilities:

- Work closely with Business Unit Leader, senior staff, and international Practice Leaders in continuing to develop and implement the growth strategy for the business and expand our client network
- Understand a client's needs and respond by putting together a team, a technical approach, and a proposal to solve the client's challenges
- Develop strategic plans to track opportunities to sell all Moffatt & Nichol services
- Lead a team in the planning, analysis, and design of port cargo facilities, planning, analysis, and design of ports and terminals
- Develop and lead the development of business and client relationships in the Oceania region for port and terminal planning services
- Perform due diligence studies for ports and terminals in Oceania and internationally
- Collaborate with various teams within Moffatt & Nichol including:
- Global port planning and design staff
- Global technology services group (FlexTerm and NextPort)
- Commercial and economics group
- Business development team
- Occasional need to work outside of the country

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Commerce or Planning; required
- 15+ years of strategic planning, design, operation and/or management of ports, terminals and waterfront developments; required
- Proven business development track record with client management skills
- Experience managing projects listed above and developing business with clients; required
- Ability to mentor and train others
- Participation in industry associations and professional groups.
- Permanent residency or citizenship in Australia
- Professional engineering registration preferred
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- Availability and willingness to travel
- Bi-lingual / multi-lingual desired
- All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST
Working conditions:
Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required. Travel will be required.
Direct reports:
No direct reports anticipated initially. However, direct reports and team leadership expected in line with team and business growth.
