About the Role

Opportunity for two Intensivists, preferably with prior consultant experience, to contribute to the SVHM ICU team in fractional appointments (one fixed term and one permanent position). Skills and experience in the provision of Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) are desirable as this role may include participation in an ECMO oncall roster to support ECMO initiation and ongoing patient management. Interest and recent experience in neurocritical care is also required.  

In addition to clinical duties and an administrative portfolio, it is expected that the appointed Intensivist will participate in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, including supervisor of training duties, as well as quality assurance. Support of existing unit research activities is a requirement with substantial recent experience in research being highly desirable. 

You are expected to have broad skills and experience in: 

• Interdisciplinary collaboration to manage complex patients 
• Provision of supervision and support for junior medical staff including CICM trainees 
• Department management and leadership 
• Quality assurance and continuous improvement work to assist the service in maintaining high clinical standards 

Appointment duration: x1 12 month fixed term and x1 permanent position available 

Classifications for this position will range from HN19 - HN59 ($ $221.19 per hour) (dependent on years of expereince) as per the Medical Specialists (Victorian Public Health Sector) (AMA Victoria/ASMOF) (Single interest employers) ENterprise Agreement

Your Contribution

About SVHM's ICU

St Vincent's Melbourne Intensive Care Unit (SVHM ICU) is a 20 bed mixed medical and surgical intensive care service that admits 1600 patients per year. Although high in acuity and patient severity of illness, ICU at SVHM maintains high performance and outstanding patient outcomes. It Is collocated within a healthcare precinct that incorporates St Vincent's Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) with a 12 bed ICU.   

Subspeciality areas include cardiothoracic services, a growing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program and an acute neurocritical care program. Services provided outside the ICU include a medical emergency team, ICU outreach and liaison service, complex multidisciplinary patient care programs and tracheostomy review service. There are currently 3 fulltime and 8 fractional Intensivists with junior medical staffing provided by fellows, senior registrars, junior registrars and residents.
