Full-time, fixed term position for 13 months.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level B) to join the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Adelaide, contributing to cutting-edge research in computer vision and machine learning for space applications.

This role focuses on advancing machine learning and computer vision research, with a strong emphasis on space-related applications, working collaboratively with academic, industry, and government stakeholders.

As a Research Fellow, you will be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team developing novel deep learning approaches with real-world impact in the space domain. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated researcher to build on a strong academic publication record, work with leading experts in the field, and contribute to nationally significant projects. The role offers both academic freedom and practical collaboration with industrial partners, making it ideal for those looking to bridge theoretical innovation with applied outcomes.

Applicants must hold (or be eligible to obtain) a Commonwealth of Australia NV1 security clearance or an equivalent clearance from Canada, the USA, the UK, or New Zealand. Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C++, and demonstrated experience in deep neural networks and mathematical optimisation, are essential. To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or other Machine Learning-related field.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++ or other relevant language and experience in deep neural networks.
  • Experience and demonstratable knowledge in computer vision and machine learning in the context of space applications. Strong math skills in mathematical optimisation and the foundational aspects of modern deep learning.
  • A strong publication record in top tier machine learning and/or computer vision conferences or other relevant venues, commensurate with experience and opportunity.
  • A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team, including with industrial partners
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience.
  • To be either an Australian citizen holding or eligible to apply and maintain a Commonwealth of Australia NV1 security clearance, or a Canadian, USA, UK or NZ citizen with an equivalent security clearance from country of citizenship.
