About the department

The Austin Consultation Liaison (CL) Psychiatry service provides psychiatric support for medical and surgical inpatients across Austin Health sites (Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, and Royal Talbot Hospital). The Austin CL Psychiatry service supports inpatients across Austin Health by addressing the overlap of physical and mental health to improve patient care.

About the role

The Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist provides clinical leadership, supervises registrars, supports staff education, advocates for patients, and contributes to service quality and development within a multidisciplinary team.

About you

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You will be working with a team of professionals to make a difference to consumers impacted by mental health difficulties.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification.

  • Advanced knowledge of consultation liaison psychiatry (with relevant experience or RANZCP Advanced Certificate/equivalent).
  • Accredited supervisor for RANZCP training in accordance with RANZCP guidelines.
  • Experience across varied settings, including emergency and rehabilitation services.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with general hospital teams.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care across the lifespan (paediatric to aged care).
  • Capacity to collaborate with medical and surgical teams to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Working with Children Check (WWC Check) in compliance with the Working with Children Act 2005.
