Lead Compositor - VFX Studio (Sydney)

Contract: 6 months, with potential extension

Location: Sydney-based only (on-site)

Start Date: January 2026

Our client, a highly regarded VFX studio based in Sydney, is seeking an experienced Lead Compositor to join their team on a six-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The studio is looking for someone who can contribute strong artistic and technical leadership while delivering exceptional compositing results.

As the Lead Compositor, you will work on complex shots, seamless CG integration, look development, novel solutions to complex problems, and support the 2D Supervisor in maintaining visual quality across sequences. You will also play a key role in guiding a small team of compositors, providing feedback, mentoring, and helping maintain an efficient, collaborative workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the compositing of high-end live-action and creature integration shots to the highest visual standard.
  • Collaborate closely with the 2D Supervisor, VFX Supervisors, and other department leads to ensure creative and technical alignment.
  • Provide clear artistic and technical direction to a small team of compositors, offering feedback, mentorship, and support.
  • Troubleshoot complex compositing challenges and propose efficient solutions.
  • Maintain consistency of look and quality across assigned sequences.
  • Contribute to workflow and pipeline improvements in collaboration with the team.
  • Work on-site in the Sydney studio and engage as an active contributor to the team culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Compositor in a high-end VFX studio environment.
  • Strong reel showcasing live-action compositing with seamless creature/CG integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or supervising a small compositing team.
  • Expert proficiency in Nuke and deep understanding of compositing principles.
  • Ability to problem-solve complex technical and creative challenges.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Must be Sydney-based or willing to relocate.
