Newcastle Maitland Hunter, Australia Engage Personnel Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

Are you an experienced family lawyer looking for the next step in your career?

This boutique Newcastle-based firm is seeking a Senior Family Lawyer (8–15+ years PQE) to join their collaborative and supportive team.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a highly autonomous role where you'll manage complex private family law matters, mentor junior lawyers, and enjoy a genuinely flexible working environment.

About the Role:

You'll be joining a growing boutique practice that works exclusively in family law. This position has been created to bridge the gap between junior/mid-level solicitors and the most senior practitioners, offering scope for leadership while still being hands-on with interesting, complex work.

Your caseload will primarily involve:

  • Complex property matters, including large asset pools, trusts, due diligence, and binding financial agreements
  • Parenting disputes and contested hearings
  • Surrogacy and other specialised family law matters
  • Supervising and supporting junior solicitors and paralegals

Accredited Specialists or those with a Masters in Family Law will be highly regarded.

The Culture:

The firm prides itself on being collaborative, flexible, and family-friendly. With a team of 12, the culture is protective, supportive, and built on mutual trust. Everyone is encouraged to work in a way that fits their life, whether that means hybrid arrangements, flexible hours, or working remotely when travelling.

What you can expect:

  • Flexible work (WFH & hybrid options welcome)
  • Paid maternity leave and tailored flexibility for parents
  • Achievable KPIs with annual salary reviews
  • Supportive team with a strong focus on culture
  • Regular team socials, quarterly dinners, Christmas parties, and an annual Hunter Valley conference
  • CPD paid for and opportunities for growth

This is not a rigid 9–5 environment, instead, expectations are clear, achievable, and built around your circumstances.

About:

You This role will suit a senior family lawyer who:

  • Brings 8–15 years' PQE in family law
  • Has proven experience in complex property and parenting matters
  • Enjoys working collaboratively while also being comfortable autonomously
  • Is willing to mentor and guide junior team members
  • Values a healthy balance between career and life

Benefits

  • Salary based on experience (competitive and negotiable)
  • CPD and professional development supported
  • A role you can shape around your lifestyle and career goals

If you're a senior family lawyer seeking meaningful, flexible work in a supportive boutique practice, I would love to hear from you.
