Position summary

The Assembly Supervisor supervises and coordinates a multi-disciplinary team to assemble, fit-out, test and commission the company's plastic tanks and all related plumbing, mechanical and electrical/instrumentation components. The role ensures safe, high-quality assemblies that meet engineering drawings, SOPs and regulatory/operational requirements; it also ensures robust handovers to commissioning/operations. This will be a hands on position where required.

Key accountabilities & responsibilities
  • Supervise and carry out assembly of plastic tanks), including joining methods appropriate to materials (e.g., solvent welding, heat/fusion welding, mechanical fastening, gasketed bolted joints and adhesive bonding).
  • Ensure correct installation of tank frames, support structures, seals and fittings to drawing tolerances.
  • Implement tank-specific safe work practices (eg. preventing cracking during fill/drain, supporting paired tank operations).
  • Supervise/plumb pipework systems feeding and servicing tanks:
  • Oversee joining techniques for plastic piping
  • Execute and/or direct hydrostatic and leak tests, pressure decay and flow verification to ensure system integrity and correct flow rates.
  • Supervise assembly and integration of electrical components and instrumentation
  • Ensure wiring, terminations and cable routing meet electrical safety standards and IP/ingress protection requirements; ensure strain relief, correct glands and labelling.
  • Implement electrical isolation, lockout/tagout and safe-testing procedures for the team.
  • Plan and supervise commissioning sequences: electrical/instrument checks, leak & pressure testing, functional tests of pumps/valves/sensors and full system integration checks.
  • Maintain build records, wiring diagrams, as-built drawings, test protocols and sign-offs. Ensure all documentation is complete before handover to commissioning/operations.
  • Enforce quality standards, PPE, safe systems of work, and relevant WHS/HSE procedures. Ensure team compliance for working at heights, confined space entry (if relevant), manual handling and lifting equipment.
  • Report and investigate incidents and near misses; ensure corrective actions are followed.
  • Ensure training and competency records are maintained.
  • Lead, schedule and develop the fitout/tank assembly team and subcontractors; coach on best practice for plastic joining, plumbing routing and electrical/instrumentation assembly.
  • Drive lean and standard work practices to improve throughput, reduce rework, and standardise assemblies.
Key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • On-time completion of tank builds and fitout milestones.
  • Leak-free builds and successful commissioning on first pass.
  • Zero serious safety incidents; reduction in near misses.
  • Electrical and plumbing installations pass safety and functional inspections.
  • Reduced rework rates and improved first-pass acceptance.
Essential skills & experience
  • Trade qualification or Certificate III (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Plumbing, Fabrication, Instrumentation or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years' hands-on experience with plastic tank assembly/plastic joining and plumbing, plus supervisory experience.
  • Practical experience with plastic joining techniques (solvent cement, heat/fusion, gasketed joints and mechanical fasteners).
  • Proven experience installing and testing pipework, valves, pumps and fluid handling systems.
  • Strong leadership, planning, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of WHS requirements, lockout/tagout, confined space and lifting-equipment safety.
Desirable / advantageous
  • Experience with motor/pump installation and commissioning, VFDs and basic PLC I/O concepts.
  • Experience with instrumentation (level/pressure/flow sensors) and functional testing.
  • Licences/certificates: forklift, crane/rigging, confined space, working at heights. (Electrical work to be performed by licensed electricians; supervision experience of electrical trades is advantageous.)
  • Formal training in supervision/leadership and in Lean manufacturing / standard work.
