Bond University is seeking a passionate and dedicated Indigenous Learning Advisor to join the Nyombil Centre team at Bond University and play a pivotal role in empowering the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders. The Indigenous Academic Advisor enables the academic success of Indigenous students through culturally safe, strengths-based support.

This dynamic role provides academic advice – from personalised course planning and navigating university systems to connecting students with a broad range of academic, cultural, and wellbeing resources. By building strong, trust-based relationships, the Advisor ensures each student is supported and valued throughout their educational journey.

Working collaboratively with faculties, student services, and Indigenous support networks across the university, the Advisor helps create a culturally inclusive and respectful learning environment where Indigenous students thrive.

About the person

This integral role will be part of a dynamic team that will implement strategies specifically targeted to our First Nations students to positively impact participation and academic success. The appointee will be an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander person and will ideally possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or ability to obtain one
  • Demonstrated understanding of the educational challenges and systemic barriers experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education.
  • Proven experience in providing culturally responsive academic or student support in an educational setting.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and iLearn
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to consult and liaise with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders (students, academic & professional staff etc.)
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing demands, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work co-operatively and with initiative in a small team
Salary details

The salary for the position commences at $96,222.23 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
