Role Overview

We're seeking an experienced Performance Test Engineer who holds or is eligible for NV1 security clearance. You will design and execute high-scale performance and load testing for mission-critical applications running on AWS, Azure or GCP. You'll collaborate closely with architects, developers and DevOps teams to identify bottlenecks, advocate for performance best practices, and ensure systems meet stringent service-level targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Performance Test Strategy: Define end-to-end performance testing strategies, including workload modelling, success criteria and SLA validation.
• Test Design & Execution: Develop and maintain performance test scripts using tools such as JMeter, Gatling or k6; execute large-scale load, stress and endurance tests.
• CI/CD Integration: Integrate performance tests into Jenkins/GitLab pipelines; automate baseline and regression tests to provide continuous feedback.
• Analysis & Reporting: Analyse test results to pinpoint performance bottlenecks (CPU, memory, I/O, network), produce clear dashboards and reports, and recommend remediation strategies.
• Collaboration: Partner with development, infrastructure and security teams to implement performance tuning, capacity planning and monitoring solutions (e.g. CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus).
• Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior testers and developers on performance engineering best practices, tooling and risk-based testing approaches.

Mandatory Requirements

• NV1 Security Clearance: Current NV1 clearance (or eligibility to obtain immediately).
• Experience: Minimum 3 years in hands-on performance testing for large-scale, cloud-based applications.
• Tools: Proficiency with at least one major load-testing framework (JMeter, Gatling, k6) and scripting in Groovy, JavaScript or Python.
• Cloud Platforms: Proven track record testing applications on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Strong familiarity integrating tests into Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or equivalent.
• Analysis Skills: Deep understanding of system metrics, APM tools and root-cause analysis techniques.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; able to present complex performance findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes) under load.
• Knowledge of database performance tuning (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Familiarity with network-level testing (TCP, HTTP/2, WebSockets).
• Certification in performance engineering or cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
