L1 Capital is part of the L1 Group (ASX:L1G), a global equities-focused investment manager with approximately $17b in funds under management. The L1 Group specialises in long only and long-short equities, convertible debt and real assets strategies and has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Miami and London.

The L1 Capital Long Short Fund (LSF) has been the best performing long/short fund in Australia since its inception in 2014, delivering 19.7% p.a. (net). The Global Long Short Fund (GLSF) launched on January 1, 2025 and has returned 67.5% (net) outperforming the MSCI World index by more than 45%*. The L1 Capital investment process focuses on fundamental, bottom-up company research and independent thinking.

The investment team is looking to add an Investment Analyst to work across Australian and global equities within LSF and GLSF.

Job Summary

We are looking for an analyst who is passionate about equity markets, enjoys the intellectual challenge of investment research and is deeply curious on how businesses operate. The ideal candidate is an independent thinker with strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in long/short investing.

L1 Capital operates as a meritocracy, with compensation and career progression determined by performance.

Candidates should have at least 4 years of professional experience in sell-side research, investment banking or funds management.

The Role

The Analyst's key role is to develop deep subject matter expertise across two to three sectors. The role involves both generating new investment ideas and conducting ongoing research on existing portfolio positions.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Meeting regularly with company management, industry participants and relevant experts.
  2. Travelling to meet with company management teams and competitors.
  3. Analysing, synthesising and clearly communicating research insights to portfolio managers.
  4. Building, maintaining and refining valuation and financial models.

Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience will be viewed favourably:

  1. Relevant Investment experience (sell-side research, investment banking or funds management).
  2. Existing knowledge of public market sectors relevant to the role.
  3. Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in accounting, finance or related disciplines.

Remuneration

Compensation will be competitive with the market and structured as a base salary plus discretionary, uncapped bonus, aligned with performance.
