The opportunity
As a Maternal and Child Health Nurse with Hobsons Bay City Council, you'll play a vital role in supporting families and their little ones from birth through to school age. This role is all about building strong, trusting relationships while promoting health, wellbeing, and positive parenting practices. You'll provide guidance, early intervention, and advocacy to ensure every child gets the best start in life, while also caring for mums and families as a whole. Working closely with a passionate team and the local community, you'll bring your expertise in child development and family health to deliver a service that's respectful, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs. This is a part-time position until July 2026.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing comprehensive health services for families with children from birth to school age, focusing on health promotion, early detection, and intervention.
- Supporting and guiding parents on child development, behaviour, and safety, while promoting positive parenting practices.
- Conducting home visits and follow-up appointments in line with Maternal and Child Health guidelines, responding promptly to birth notifications.
- Collaborating with health professionals and community services to ensure families receive appropriate referrals and support, especially those experiencing vulnerability.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to team development, including mentoring students and participating in professional learning and parenting programmes.
What You'll Need To Succeed
- Division 1 Nursing and Midwifery qualifications, Child and Family Health nursing certification, and current AHPRA registration.
- Victorian driver's licence and current Working with Children Check.
- Strong understanding of child development, Maternal & Child Health Service standards, referral pathways, and excellent communication skills.
- Competence in CDIS and related systems, plus experience delivering primary health services and managing Maternal and Child Health Centres.
- Commitment to child safety, health and safety policies, equal opportunity, and adherence to Council and legislative requirements.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Progressed candidates will be required to complete a National Police Record Check, a Pre-Employment Medical Check & provide a copy of their current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa with full unrestricted working rights. Work eligibility will be checked as part of the recruitment process.
