Tenure: Permanent, Part-time (0.56 FTE)

Location: Perth Zoo, Western Australia

This position works under the guidance of the Senior Technical Officer Zoology as an effective member of the Life Sciences team, providing a high level of care, husbandry and health monitoring for assigned animal species at Perth Zoo.

This position operates within a strong safety culture and follows defined Workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures, including the Zoo's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Training occurs as operationally required.

Applicants deemed suitable from this process may be eligible for additional vacancies that arise within Perth Zoo's exotics section (primates or carnivores and ungulates).

Selection Criteria

  1. Certificate III in Wildlife & Exhibited Animal Care or an industry equivalent certification.
  2. Applied biological knowledge and experience in the husbandry, observation and management of wildlife in a zoo or similar environment.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a team and to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the application of health, safety & wellbeing, and equity & diversity principles and practices in the workplace.

The following essential criterion will be assessed at some stage during the recruitment process.

5. Knowledge of and commitment to nature conservation, including the communication of a biodiversity ethos to the public, consistent with the role of Zoos.

Note: Previous experience in the husbandry and management of primates, specifically ape species, will be highly regarded in the selection of the successful candidate to this position. Subsequent appointments from this recruitment process may be made according to a suitable candidate's relevant species experience.
