About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Officer to manage the procurement of materials and supplies essential to our operations. This is a vital role that ensures our projects run on time and on budget through efficient supply chain management and supplier communication.
This position is responsible for all international purchasing, including accurate estimation of landed cost and the organisation of freight activities.
A key focus area is the consistent follow-up of all purchase orders, ensuring components are delivered on time and production flows without interruption. The role requires balancing cost control with operational priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and communication.
Note: Candidates with a Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering will be looked upon favourably.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing & Procurement:
- Identify suppliers, obtain quotes, negotiate contracts, and secure best-value outcomes.
- Manage international purchasing, calculate landed costs, and coordinate inbound shipments.
Purchase Order Management:
- Create, process, and follow up on purchase orders to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain stock accuracy, monitor inventory levels, and collaborate with internal teams.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build positive supplier relationships, resolve issues, and monitor performance.
Cost Control:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure supplied parts meet design standards and oversee NCR processes as required.
About You
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- A proactive, detail-driven approach to procurement and supply chain practices
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong negotiation skills with a solutions-focused approach
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ownership mindset and strong team collaboration
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a purchasing or procurement role
- Solid ERP or inventory systems experience
- A Mechanical Engineering degree is highly regarded

About the RoleThe business requires a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Officer to manage the procurement of materials and supplies essential to our operations. This is a vital role that ensures projects run on time and on budget by maintaining efficient supply chains and supplier relationships.
The occupant of this role will manage all international purchasing, including accurate estimation of landed cost and organising all freight activities.
The Purchasing Officer at John Valves will oversee the procurement of goods and services required for efficient and cost-effective business operations. A key focus will be the proactive follow-up of all purchase orders, ensuring components are delivered on time and production continuity is maintained. This role balances cost control with operational needs while effectively managing expenses and supply chain efficiency.
Note: The role would look favourably on applicants with a Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Key ResponsibilitiesSourcing and Procurement:
- Identify potential suppliers, obtain quotes, negotiate contracts, and ensure the best value for the organisation
- Control international orders, calculate landed costs, and manage shipment into our warehouse
Purchase Order Management:
- Create, process, and follow up purchase orders to ensure timely delivery and uninterrupted production
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate stock records, track inventory, and coordinate with other departments
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, resolve issues, and monitor supplier performance
Cost Control:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising product quality
Quality:
- Ensure supplied parts meet design standards and oversee NCR processes where applicable
